Landspítali, The National University Hospital of Iceland in Reykjavík is looking for an enthusiastic, driven, and ambitious doctor to join, and take on a leading role in further developing our transgender care team.
The employment rate is 100% and the job is available on April 10th, 2023 or by further agreement.
Iceland is a progressive society with one of the most progressive legislative frameworks on transgender right and health care in the world and a strong and respected LGBTQ+ society. Iceland is also famous for its natural beauty and rich history. Reykjavík is the northern-most capital city in the world. It has been shaped by the glaciers and volcanoes that surround it, and the sunny summer nights and dark winters under the aurora that have contributed to a strong musical and artistic culture.
Iceland ranks highly in international indexes of healthcare, democracy, and equality, including first on the Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index (Global Burden of Disease Study 2016), first for gender equality for the last 12 consecutive years (WEF), first in the Global Peace Index every year since 2008 (IEP), fourth in the UN Human Development Index, and was one of only four nations to avoid excess mortality during 2020-21 in the COVID-19 pandemic. Transgender rights in Iceland have progressed greatly in the past 10 years. In 2019 Iceland¿s Parliament passed a new law witch greatly expands the rights of trans people, both in matter of trans specific health care and to change their legally registered gender.
Our goal is for Landspítali to provide the best holistic care possible for our trans community and we believe there is no reason not to have the best transgender care team, at least in the Nordic countries. The successful applicant will be part of the team at a new center for transgender care being established in Iceland, where service will be provided at all stages of care on a multidisciplinary basis in line with WPTAH¿s standards of care within our progressive society.
The position is available by April 10th or by agreement. The position is full-time, however it may be possible to negotiate for a lower percentage position. Tax incentives are available for up to 3 years for foreign experts recruited to Iceland.
